Rhetoric

Rhetoric transforms students into moving orators and strong writers. Rhetoric teaches students 7o discover, articulate and defend their ideas and opinions both in speech and writing. Our course consists of two distinct components that inform and enrich one another.

Faithfully following Aristotle’s definition, the speech component of our Rhetoric course teaches students the five classical canons of rhetoric: discovery, organization, style, memory and delivery. Students learn to produce powerful speeches that are as potent in their concepts as they are in their delivery. Graduates from the highest level of the course will be able to give prepared speeches of up to 10 minutes and impromptu speeches of up to 5 minutes.

The writing component of our course trains students to produce four key types of academic and creative writing: descriptive, narrative, expository and persuasive essays. Students will learn how to effectively edit and refine their writing to produce quality essays of up to 1,500 words.
